Artist's Statement

At age eleven I discovered painting. It has been a lifelong passion of mine ever since. Oils and acrylics have been my media of choice, but I have also embraced collage and printmaking for the unexpected and beautiful results they produce.

My solo exhibitions are theme-based, but within a category I can interpret each piece quite differently. If it is a show of figurative art, for example, the work may range from semi realistic to more abstract. It is somewhat unconventional to work this way, but challenging to create a cohesive body of work. This for me is what makes the process so exciting.

I also find it important to "comment" on what is happening in the world through my art. Of particular interest are the plight of migrants and environmental concerns. As artists we can bring issues to the fore while expressing our own views.

Creating art has given my life greater meaning. It is my hope that more people will look at art as not just something to put on the wall, but something that will enrich their environment, promote discussion and stimulate the senses.
